With a population of under 100,000, West Palm Beach might seem like a small ocean-side city, but it is directly linked with urban center after urban center and is part of a massive metropolitan area that covers almost half the coast of Florida, most of its southern edge. What stands out in West Palm Beach, and in comparison to its many sister cities along the Atlantic seaboard, is the stunning Spanish-influenced architecture. Often renewed, courtesy of damage done by hurricanes, the city has a new, shiny sensibility, and yet a dignity of old standing.

Thanks to its discriminating population of wealthy people, West Palm Beach is host to numerous festivals and cultural establishments. The stunning Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts has as its resident group the professional theater company, Florida Stage. In this venue are staged operas, theatrical productions, concerts and dance. The nearby Norton Museum of Art has an enviable permanent collection and offers periodic displays of touring art shows.

West Palm Beach boasts an annual international film festival and a boat show, appropriately, and it is home to the oldest equine exhibition, the National Horse Show, in the U.S.A. It is here that the glittering Trump Tower stands 32 stories above the equally sparkling blue waters.

Sports abound here, thanks to the amenable climate. Golf is hugely popular, as are regular-type and beach polo; croquet enjoys a healthy following in West Palm Beach! And the swimming and sailing are excellent.

Many attractions complement a visit to West Palm Beach and surrounds. The West Palm Beach Zoo at Dreher Park is a fine way to spend a sunny day. Or check out the Rapids Water Park for a round of fun. The South Florida Science Museum is perfect for one of those monsoon-dampened summer afternoons. And you can have a roaring good time at the Lion Country Safari.

A bonus to this area is the recent sharp drop in crime rates. The cities have worked together to reduce crime and they have succeeded, making West Palm Beach a safer place to play, shop, dine, and mingle with the rich and famous.
