Wasaga Beach has been a sweltering summer respite for the people of Toronto for more than a century; here the breezes are light and the humidity significantly less than in the big city to the south. The water is warm and clean, and the view of the mountains across Nottawasaga Bay is breathtaking. It’s an idyllic spot.

There are plenty of things to do in and near Wasaga Beach, including touring a historical site from the War of 1812, attending jazz concerts, hiking on one of many dedicated trails, fishing for game fish in Nottawasaga Bay, swimming, bicycling, go-karting and golfing. In easy access to the beach are excellent restaurants and fast-food outlets, boat rentals and accommodations, including camping; this is located at an Ontario Provincial Park.

Next to one of Ontario’s major ski resort towns, Collingwood, Wasaga Beach is dotted with cottages and summer homes owned by the people of Toronto and other major urban centers in this province. Popular Canadian musician and rocker, Kim Mitchell, makes his home here, and it has been the subject of many songs, receiving honorable mention in the lyrics of the Daniel Lanois tune, “Lotta Love To Give”: “Wasaga Beach first of July”. Indeed, the celebrations here on July 1st (Canada Day) every year are part of a season of events.

With a population of about 15,000, Wasaga Beach is tourist-friendly and has all the necessary amenities for a great beach vacation. Nowhere else will tourists find a long, flat beach this length on a lake, or such a vibrant, safe, family-oriented atmosphere.
